Black Wing (Step Road) Shiraz 2005This South Australian Shiraz was dark garnet in color with an aroma of orange, vanilla, spice box, and a little grass. The wine has a high acidity and was a little spicy. Tasted of raspberry, black pepper, red apple, and cranberry and finished with cranberry and spice box.
This is not the typical South Australian Shiraz, which is typically more of a fruit bomb. This one had more structure, character. The acidity made it go well with the pork roast.

90 points Robert Parker: “The 2005 Shiraz Black Wing offers black cherry, chocolate, smoke, and earth characteristics in a medium-bodied, rich, intense format. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.” (10/06) Aged in French and American oak for 12 -18 months. Deep purple/red color. Rich berry fruits on the nose with hints of pepper and spice. Supple berry intensity in the mouth with velvety soft middle palate and a long finish… particularly considering the price tag on this fab value!
